Homemade Jelly Doughnuts | Mrs. Miller's Homemade Jams

Homemade Jelly Doughnuts

1 cup warm water                
1 1/2 tsp yeast
1 cup flour

Mix and let set for 30 minutes to 1 hour. Then add the following:

1/2 T. salt                              
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs, beaten                      
1/2 cup lard or oil
3 cups flour (more or less)
1 bottle oil (for frying only!) 

Mix and knead like bread dough. Let stand covered for 2 hours. Prepare floured surface, plop dough on top and lightly roll or pat flat. Don't roll or work the dough more than absolutely necessary.  When nearly 1" thick cut to desirable shape. Let rise till double. Deep fat fry in oil or oil mixed with Crisco at 350 degrees till golden. Test for doneness when slightly cooled by breaking open to see if centers are baked through. After they're done, dip donut into sugar or powdered sugar. Once cooled, poke a hole on one side and add a small amount of Mrs. Millers Homemade Strawberry Jam.
